And of course the GREAT massages!!! And the food!! SUPER! I did love the fresh fruit plate and the fresh coconut milk as extra at breakfast: for me, there was even too mutch choice on the breakfast menu, but of course, this variety is great for everyone else. We have our own restaurant (Italian) in Belgium, and are therefore quite picky! We also tried out a few evenings some other restaurants in the area, but none of them could match the refined, tasty, and sometimes original cuisine of the Chef here. Do you wish for something that is not on their menu? Do ask: the answer is always : Hakuna Matata! No problem!"

It deserves 5 stars. Tim who runs the hotel is an absolute perfectionist. The butler service was exceptional and no ask was too much. They made romantic dinners all around the property for us with candles and flowers. Shout out to Hashim who is also an acrobat! The food was out of this world from breakfast to dinner. I asked for dishes that weren’t even on the menu and it was no issue for the very talented chef. They created a steak linguine and my lord was it out of this world. The spa was a beautiful experience, the lady is incredibly talented also and created a huge sense of calm for me. She was the sweetest soul with a heart of gold who took a lot of care in her work The pool was stunning looking out to the sea and sunrises were gorgeous. I couldn’t recommend this more to anyone. We stayed at both Zuri Zanzibar and Pongwe Island and this hotel stood out for us as they make you feel so special."

The pool and the garden are also truly stunning, providing even more spaces to unwind and take in the island atmosphere. The hotel sits right on a beautiful beach, where you can easily walk 100 to 200 meters into the ocean at low tide and only be knee-deep in water. Nearby, there are several other hotels and restaurants that you can reach by strolling along the shore. One small thing to be aware of is that if you walk along the beach during the day, you might be approached by locals offering boat trips (for snorkeling, starfish viewing, and more). It’s understandable, though sometimes you just want a bit of quiet. Throughout our stay, we were helped by (I hope I’m spelling their names correctly) Dissua, Mohammed, and Jackline. Our room was cleaned every day, and each evening someone came by to spray it with mosquito spray. The service was truly top-notch, and all of these details combined to make it a fantastic stay. I would highly recommend Hekaya to anyone looking for a laid-back, welcoming place to enjoy the beauty of Zanzibar."

- "Simply put, the easiest 10/10 rating. Can’t recommend this place enough! We spent two weeks at Samawa Living for our honeymoon, and it was absolutely amazing. I have been to hotels all over the world, but Samawa is my favorite hotel experience! Everything was just perfect. Hotel rooms were large, super nice and really well equipped (even yoga mats and beach bag). They also keep them very clean. We really enjoyed chilling on the sunbeds in a quiet pool area, working out in the gym and in yoga classes. As well as the general vibe of the place, which is in large part due to the most friendly and helpful staff I have met! I also have to mention that the a la carte breakfast was a whole other level compared to regular hotel breakfast buffets (freshly made passion fruit juice is the best juice ever!). The food in general was by far the best we had in Zanzibar. Even though we had lunch and dinner other places in Paje and Jambiani, and normally don’t eat much at hotel restaurants, we ended up eating much more at the hotel than we had planned for. Big qudos to the chefs! It is not a large and overcrowded hotel, which allows for a much more pleasant stay than big hotels or resorts. Even though it’s not located on the beach, the beach is just a very short walk (or complimentary buggy ride) away - and we enjoyed the option of hanging out at a place with more peace and quiet than right on the beach itself. While we were there, they put on live music nights, movie nights and helped us with recommendations and bookings for tours and experiences.
