It's not a typical Hotel, it has the beautiful Swiss feel of years gone by, a Gasthaus. The food in the restaurant was also 10 out of 10. The views of the countryside were absolutely stunning and just a minute of so up the road was the Ebenalp cable car up to Berggasthaus Aescher. The owners of the property were lovely, warm and friendly as too were the staff."

Only the name reminds us of the military. This historic hotel is one of the most beautiful in Switzerland. Each room is different; all are individually and lovingly furnished with original 1960s furniture and offer an above-average amount of space. The location of the hotel is also unique. Quiet yet central. The old town and all sights such as the monastery and abbey library are just a few minutes' walk away. The hotel's own restaurant with a large chestnut garden and a view of the Kreuzbleiche green space spoils you with exclusively homemade, seasonal dishes. The Hotel Militärkantine is a hospitality house and a meeting place for people who value design, enjoyment, sustainability, culture, social responsibility and respect for nature. - "The hotel was in an excellent location five minutes walk from the railway station. We had problems with our baggage as Swiss Air did not load any luggage onto the plane. The staff at reception, in particular Mara and Emmanuel, were extremely helpful giving us information, etc to get a few clothes and toiletries. The room was a good size, clean and the beds comfortable. At breakfast there was a large selection of food, hot and cold, fruit and yoghurt."
