The gasthof was packed with artistic embellishment at whatever angle you cast your eye; no shelf was empty or wall bare; even the simple sink stopper was not spared. To top it all, the host and hostess were warm, helpful and full of zest for life. We hoped for good local food, friendly hosts, and a cozy hotel – and found all of that, plus the exceptional warmth of Uschi and Rainer. They welcomed us with genuine kindness, took care of us every morning at breakfast, and greeted us with smiles throughout our stay. Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of choice – freshly made eggs, crispy bacon, tea, coffee, fruits, sweets, etc. – everything exactly how you want it, with no issues at all. We also received the Wildschönau Card, which included numerous activities for free – a wonderful bonus. Highly recommended! Even thinking of coming back one day"

We found Schloss Matzen and immediately booked! We live in Germany now, so I have stayed at other castle hotels, but this is one of the best ones yet! Absolutely stunning! Amazing staff! Very easy to communicate via message or phone and in person. We arrived early the morning of the Cow festivities and asked if we could just park our car there since we would be staying, the lady said no problem and even checked us in right away. Very dog friendly as well. We loved being able to tour the Castle and eat dinner right there overlooking the Castle & pond. Great Breakfast also included. Amazing accommodations. ❤️🏰"

Large outdoor pool and sauna/welness area with 2 saunas and 1 infra room. Our room wa spacious. Food was excellent (breakfast and dinner with multiple courses). Location is also convenient, the hotel is located in the lovely Alpbach town and you can walk everywhere in the village."
