- "I think what made this place great to stay, was Tome and her husbands hospitality. I booked Mugen due to the reviews and we weren’t disappointed. Tome goes out of her way to sit down with you and discuss sight seeing, transport, food recommendations. She is also incredibly responsive… I had so many tedious questions and she happily got back to me each time within a few minutes. The room itself was small but all we needed for the trip. The architecture of the hotel is beautifully set up, lots of nice detailing. There is a downstairs section you have access to if you’d like to eat meals outside of your room. We had a cute view of the garden and it was nice seeing snow falling from where we drank tea/coffee. Great spot for a couple to spend a few nights. We enjoyed our time!"

Having traveled to Japan over 50 times, bringing friends this time for their first visit, I wanted them to experience all types of accommodations and this was a perfect ryokan, exceeding all my expectations at a very fair price. We each had a 2 level townhouse with outside bath and shower (and inside shower and 2 toilets). 2 tatami room each floor, with fridge and tea pot. We never even had to fold our futon! While we walked up and down the alley (what a wonderful escape from the busy Kyoto streets) before finding our door, once we did, the excellent hospitality began and didn't end until the proprietor came out in the rain to ensure we got into our taxi to the station. The furnishings and finishes were exquisite but not precious, including the lighting and streams in the "village", roofs over baths (but not adjacent gardens so we could appreciate the rain falling), changing flowers, Yukata robes, and complimentary sweet bean treats. Our host was extremely helpful with dinner research and reservations. The light smell of incense added to the sensory treat. Truly can't believe how fortunate we were to have found this special place and hope to be back!"

- "Everything about our stay was amazing. The vibe was very cozy, relaxing and intimate in a traditional Japanese way, which was exactly what we were looking for. The big room with the small garden, confortable bed and huge hot bath, was particularly enjoyable after a day spent exploring Kyoto. The food was truly delicious from beginning to end. The breakfast and dinner were 2 of the best meals in our entire 4 weeks stay in Japan. Highly recommend to try both meat and fish options. They were also very accommodating for one of us who is vegetarian and were able to provide a delicious experience as well. If you are into deserts and sweets, you have to try their amazing ice cream and Japanese sweets which were served at the lounge and during tea time. Very nice late night snack as well. More than anything else, the service was the highlight of our stay. We had a small issue with our room at the beginning of our stay and the staff members went above and beyond not to let it impact our stay. They were all very kind and made our stay at the gosho memorable"

- "What an incredible find! This wonderful boutique hotel is a modern take on a traditional ryokan. We were a family of 5 and enjoyed 3 nights in 2 rooms at this little gem. Set in the bustling night life district of Gion, we felt like locals. The staff were friendly and attentive. The rooms were absolutely spotless and every amenity thought of. The Nespresso coffee machine was a winner but my favorite feature was the bathroom. So much fun in the shower room and I am sure that the very fancy toilet could read my mind! Haha. A wondrous experience."
