- "The property was exceptional. The room was large and spotlessly clean. This ryokan is 130 years old but has been fully updated internally. The inside is minimalistic in a classic Japanese style. The shared bathroom was spotless and very large and beautiful. We have never shared ammenities in accommodation before and this experience perfect. Shower was great with private onsen. The floors were heated throughout and the windows were large to showcase the spectacular view over the river and garden. The detail including the Japanese wallpaper and the beautiful flowers arrangements throughout will not be forgotten. The family run Ryokan were warm and welcoming and we can’t wait to return. We stayed during winter and this experience will be something i will never forget!"

- "Very good onsen and it is a very interesting and immersive place to stay in Japan. The staff are very polite and friendly. I totally recommend Yatsusankan." - "Our stay at Yatsuankan was one of the highlights of our trips to Japan. The people who run the ryokan were very friendly and helpful. The location of the ryokan with views that look over the river across a scenic view was amazing. The meal service was a definite highlight, with each 4-course meal served in a different room by a staff that was very kind and courteous, as well as the very relaxing hot bath onsen that was available at the ryokan. The ryokan itself is very beautiful to walk around and explore, and they have a gift store with many tempting reasonable priced items available for purchase. We were there during cherry blossom time, and the views of the blossoms from our window and from the riverside near the inn were exceptional. One evening, the inn offered a bus ride to see cherry blossoms illuminated at night. The hotel was a short walk from the train station, and when we notified the ryokan of our arrival time, they brought a van to the station to pick up our luggage. What service! A truly memorable experience. This is our second time staying at Yatsusankan, and we look forward to the time when we can return."

- "This was the third time I have stayed at Yamakyu. Are there fancier ryokan out there? yes, but this I think has got to be one of the best deals / value for your money in Japan! You can have an excellent ryokan experience without paying a lot of money. I can not say enough good things about the staff here! My nephew was sick and they were able to set up a futon for him in his room upon check in so he could rest and they asked how he was doing during our stay, they also let us take food up to his room. I had wanted to stay here for my birthday but it was all booked up so I had to stay the next night. After an excellent meal the manager(?) came out and gave me a birthday desert, she said she remembered it was my birthday the day before from when I had stayed there 5 years ago (2018), I was really touched! (and impressed!) The food is delicious and not pretentious just very good!!! The hot spring/ baths aren't fancy but you still get a good relaxing soak. The rooms are simple but nice."

Staff were wonderful. The location incredible up in the mountains with a waterfall nearby. Choosing a yukuta was very nice. Bedding was comfy. Would definitely go back." - "We treated ourselves to this place (compared to our more modest accommodations elsewhere in Japan) and it was TOTALLY worth it. Amazing location, flawless service and facilities, meals unlike any I have ever had. And it is 5 minutes from a gorgeous river, waterfall, and lush green forest which i am sure is especially amazing in the fall (with the many maple trees growing in the forest). It is located on the side of a hill and requires a bit of a steep drive up but it is no problem for a taxi. Nice onsen facilities and private balconies that overlook the valley below. Meals are provided in private rooms just for your party only. Gorgeous! Amazing."

Breakfast was excellent and very big. The inn was almost empty so they put us in the best room (I think) with a view on beautiful garde and pond with koi fishes. The other window had the view of rice fields and mountains. It is a bit far from takayama (10 mins drive) but if you have car or can use bus it's the best choice. - "Great location super close to the train station so you’re not having to lug your bags around. The main “old town” street is about a 15 minute walk which was awesome. The whole town is so flat so very family/stroller friendly. We stayed in the suite so we had the whole top floor to ourselves! The bathroom was great for little kids as well with a nice big wooden tub (it was hot during the summer so the kids used it as “mini pool” in the afternoon to cool off and relax). The staff were kind and booked our dinner for us because most things seem to close early once they reach capacity."
