I'm not a wind sports person, but the grounds were so lovely and peaceful, just hanging out at our bungalow watching the birds, sipping coffee, reading and lounging was extremely restorative. Easy stroll to the beach where we could jump into the water for a quick snorkel and swim. Didn't have time to take a kayak out (as wind sports folx know, in March it gets super windy by 11ish) but that kept the temperature pleasant and great for beach walking, hiking (many trails around!) and visiting the hot springs just a bit up the beach. We got a chance to try dinner the night we arrived and it was absolutely delicious - carefully prepared and plentiful. Breakfast everyday was lovely - highly recommend the huevos rancheros. Really enjoyed the shared and unstaffed rooftop "bar" for morning sunrise watching, general hanging out. Lots of thoughtful shared spaces and amenities (books, videos and games, binoculars and sunscreen). It's just a short 5 min drive from busier parts of El Sargento/La Ventana, easy to find food and snacks and so nice to come home to the quiet of our bungalow. The brickwork cupolas, solid wood built-ins and meandering stone pathways are designed with intention and constructed with beautiful craftsmanship. We always felt both comfortable and low key delighted to be amid beauty and nature."

All rooms face the ocean, with an amazing fresh breeze and sound of breaking waves all night long. There are two clean beaches, and wonderful rocks to explore with snorkeling and kayaks. The beaches are basically private to the hotel, as they're shared only with the 8 houses nearby. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Good free entertainment options at the hotel - billiard room, board games, corn hole, pool. The hotel was off the beaten track, but not hard to reach. Follow the paved road from Los Barriles to the small village of El Cardonal, then take the sandy dirt road for 10 km to the hotel. Our small compact rental car made it just fine."
