The traditional accommodations and food at this ryokan were unique and an unforgettable Japan experience. The hot springs were clean and spacious." - "Service and food are great" - "The ryokan is rather modern, in a classic Japanese style. It has four baths, two of them outdoors, which are especially nice. We had a room with a large terrace, a little garden and an outdoor bathtub, which we enjoyed greatly. The room was spacious and beautiful. The staff was very friendly and went out of their ways to make sure we had have a good time. For example they changed the course for me, as I do not eat meat. It helps to speak some Japanese, but they are also prepared to communicate with guests who don’t."

- "The property was exceptional. The room was large and spotlessly clean. This ryokan is 130 years old but has been fully updated internally. The inside is minimalistic in a classic Japanese style. The shared bathroom was spotless and very large and beautiful. We have never shared ammenities in accommodation before and this experience perfect. Shower was great with private onsen. The floors were heated throughout and the windows were large to showcase the spectacular view over the river and garden. The detail including the Japanese wallpaper and the beautiful flowers arrangements throughout will not be forgotten. The family run Ryokan were warm and welcoming and we can’t wait to return. - "Very good onsen and it is a very interesting and immersive place to stay in Japan. The staff are very polite and friendly. I totally recommend Yatsusankan." - "Our stay at Yatsuankan was one of the highlights of our trips to Japan. The people who run the ryokan were very friendly and helpful. The location of the ryokan with views that look over the river across a scenic view was amazing. The meal service was a definite highlight, with each 4-course meal served in a different room by a staff that was very kind and courteous, as well as the very relaxing hot bath onsen that was available at the ryokan. The ryokan itself is very beautiful to walk around and explore, and they have a gift store with many tempting reasonable priced items available for purchase. We were there during cherry blossom time, and the views of the blossoms from our window and from the riverside near the inn were exceptional. One evening, the inn offered a bus ride to see cherry blossoms illuminated at night. The hotel was a short walk from the train station, and when we notified the ryokan of our arrival time, they brought a van to the station to pick up our luggage. What service! A truly memorable experience. This is our second time staying at Yatsusankan, and we look forward to the time when we can return."

- "Guests will receive a warm welcome from Akira-San at the Yudanaka Onsen Yamazakiya, a Ryokan which has been run by the same family for three generations in the main street of the Shibu-Onsen village. The Ryokan is very well-managed and efficient, with two spa rooms and a restaurant on site. As a traditional Ryokan rooms are carpeted with spotless tatami throughout and toilet facilities are shared, but also spotless, and are separate from washing and onsen spa bathing rooms. Bedrooms equipped with floor-sleeping futons are large and in winter well heated with an electric stoves. The day starts early with a traditional healthy Japanese breakfast prepared by Akira-San and his family. Akira Yamazaki is a helpful and gracious host, who also makes excellent coffee. We highly recommend a stay at Yudanaka Onsen Yamazakiya for an authentic experience of traditional Japanese hospitality. We will certainly return! Shibu Onsen village is a picturesque street lined with older Ryokan, restaurants, and bars. The local restaurants have an excellent range of local food, but bring plenty of cash as it's mostly a cash-only town and we did not see an international ATM. A coin laundry is located a 10-minute walk away from the Ryokan towards the train station along the main riverside road. The prices are ¥500 for a small wash, ¥100 for 10 minutes of drying time, and ¥100 for soap. A public bus serves the town area and monkey park, but everything (except the monkey park) is within a fairly convenient walking distance. The Yudanaka train station is only 5 minutes away from Shibu Onsen by bus, costing ¥210. Alternatively, it takes 25 minutes to walk there. English information about local buses and trains is available from the helpful Yudanaka station staff. Wake up early to visit the snow monkeys before the arrival of out-of-town tour groups. The Snow Monkey Pass sold by Dentetsu Railway doesn’t offer great value unless you arrive very early on the first day of the two-day ticket."

- "The food was absolutely incredible. Dinner and breakfast were served in our room and it was amazing, traditional Japanese food. Miho, who was assigned to our room, was kind and spoke English much better than I expected (they had warned us not much of their staff spoke at all, so I was expecting a more difficult time communicating). The private onsen was amazing and so soothing. There were a lot of booklets and things in English to help explain how to use the public onsen and the rules and ettiquette, which was very helpful. The rooms were spacious, clean, and accomodating. I can't recommend this place enough. It's gorgeous."

Our stay was exceptional from the get go. The traditional welcome was set in an beautiful historic house set apart from the hotel which was rather a surprise for us as we thought we had been taken to the wrong place. We were given champagne and oyaki cakes while the host explained our stay. Then a short walk (or they can shuttle you) up through the beautiful streets of Asama Onsen. The hotel itself is next level! Beds were so comfortable, snacks and cold drinks available 24/7, and the onsen on the deck was just divine. The bookshop/library is absolutely incredible. The breakfast and dinner is included -Not that we didn't like it as was a great experience and fabulously done on an open fire in restaurant - the food is very traditional so come with open mind and give it a go!! We regularly visit Japan during snow season and this place was sensational. Onpoint is located close to Madarao ski resort but situated in a secluded forest. The lodge has been beautifully renovated throughout. The rooms are a good size with ensuite bathrooms (a must for us). The food here is next level. Kaori and Justin put a lot effort into their breakfasts and evening meals. You would be forgiven for thinking it is food prepared by trained chefs….amazing. Finally, perhaps the most important aspect…the service. Justin and Kaori booked restaurants, made recommendations and offered to help us out whenever we needed. We are so grateful to have met them and their beautiful furry kids - Tito and Juno…we will definitely stay with them again."
