Built in 1806, Furuya is the oldest ryokan in the Atami hot-springs area. Miho, who was assigned to our room, was kind and spoke English much better than I expected (they had warned us not much of their staff spoke at all, so I was expecting a more difficult time communicating). The private onsen was amazing and so soothing. There were a lot of booklets and things in English to help explain how to use the public onsen and the rules and ettiquette, which was very helpful. The rooms were spacious, clean, and accomodating. I can't recommend this place enough. It's gorgeous."
